How you can help
We're a small, local rescue run entirely by volunteers, focused on saving abandoned, stray, and colony cats in Waiuku and surrounding areas. There are a few key ways people can help:
- Support Financially:
-
Running a rescue is incredibly expensive. Vet bills alone can be massive. We're so grateful for any monetary donations, big or small. We are GST-registered and can provide receipts if needed.
Our rescue account is with ANZ:
Account name:
WAIUKU COLONY CAT RESCUE
Account number:
06-0477-0147595-00 - Donate Supplies:
- We're always in need of food, litter, bedding, blankets, anything to help keep our cats warm, clean, and full. Donations can be dropped off at The Vet Centre in Waiuku on Kitchener Road. We also have foster homes all over Franklin who can accept donations, please message our Facebook page or email us and we can pop you in touch with the nearest foster home.
- Become a Foster Carer:
- We need kind, caring and capable people to foster cats and kittens. While kitten season tends to slow down over winter, we're always looking to connect with reliable foster carers now so we're ready when things get busy again in the warmer months. If you or someone you know is interested, please fill out this form
- Other Ways to Volunteer:
-
Even if fostering isn't quite right for you, there are plenty of other ways to get involved:
- Transport Help; We often need help getting cats and kittens to vet appointments or picking up supplies.
- TNR Support; Occasionally we need short-term carers to hold cats overnight before or after desexing. This usually just means keeping them crated somewhere safe for 1-6 nights.
- Fundraising & Admin: From running raffles to writing grant applications - if you have skills to offer, we'd love to hear from you! colonycatswaiuku@gmail.com
- Adopt, Follow, Share:
-
Adopting a cat or kitten is the ultimate way to help. But even if you can't adopt, following our Facebook page, liking our posts, and sharing them with your friends helps our rescue reach more people and find homes faster.
Because we're a foster-based rescue, our cats and kittens are in private homes, we don't have a central shelter or volunteer base. But if you're keen to help, we'd be so grateful and will find a way for you to get involved.
Thank you so much for supporting rescue in our community. Every little bit truly makes a difference.
